STaff Therapist

ABOUT US

Vada Counseling is a queer-owned group mental health practice that provides affirming, empowering, and accessible mental health care to LGBTQ+ Texans and their families. Our clients represent diverse cultures, identities, and abilities and deserve therapists who will affirm their experiences and support them without judgment. We’re looking for a queer-identified, social justice-oriented therapist with experience working with queer individuals.

ABOUT YOU

Qualified candidates will

  • Align with our values, including the necessity of gender-affirming care

  • Be licensed to practice therapy in Texas (LPC, LCSW, LMFT; Associates under supervision may also be considered)

  • Identify as queer/part of the LGBTQ+ community

  • Have experience providing trauma-competent, LGBTQ+ affirming care

  • Use a theoretical approach that incorporates trauma-informed, person-centered, intersectional, and liberation-based therapy

  • Understand systemic oppression and its impact on mental health for individuals, communities, and cultures


Ideal candidates may

  • Have prior experience teaching, providing school- or university-based therapy, or facilitating groups

  • Enjoy working with children, adolescents, and/or teens

  • Be multilingual (inclusive of all languages, including American Sign Language)

  • Have lived experience as part of the Global majority


ABOUT THE JOB

Duties + Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, supportive individual, couples, family, and/or group therapy to LGBTQ+ individuals and their families, both biological and chosen

  • Advocate for and with clients in various settings, including legal, educational, and medical environments as necessary

  • Complete progress notes and other paperwork in a timely manner

  • Respond to client appointment requests within 24 hours

  • Collaborate with clients’ treatment team as necessary

  • Make appropriate referrals to community resources


Salary + Perks - This is an Independent contractor/1099 position with

  • Competitive pay: 70%/30% session rate split

  • Flexibility re: hours, schedule, session fees, and location! You decide when you work, you set your own fees (though we do ask you to offer sliding scale and/or accept insurance in order to increase accessibility), you can see clients virtually and/or in-person. Our office is in Houston, but you’re free to see clients wherever you feel most comfortable.

  • The size of your caseload is up to you–no minimum number of clients per week

  • Access to professional email and Electronic Health Record platform

  • Drop-in consultation and support as well as optional weekly and monthly staff meetings

  • Opportunities to create your own groups, workshops, courses, blog posts, etc.
